What is VoiceOver
Voiceover Voices
VoiceOver is the free, built-in screen reader available on all Apple computers running Mac OS X Tiger or later. Unlike traditional screen readers for Windows, VoiceOver is part of the operating system itself and not a “bolt on” software package installed after the fact. VoiceOver provides speech, output and screen magnification for the blind or low vision user, and refreshable Braille displays can be connected and used as well. The user has full keyboard control over their Mac, and can utilize their computer without any assistance . VoiceOver is easily customizable by the user, and one has access to many features and functions that can be turned on or off, such as sound alerts and verbosity settings.

- Set the rate, pitch, volume, and intonation of each voice in the fields to the right of the Voice pop-up menus. You can type a number in the fields or use the steppers next to each field to adjust the values. If you install Mac compatible voices in the Library/Speech/Voices folder of your home folder, they appear in the list of available voices.
- Mac computers come with several voices included as part of the MacInTalk system. These voices appear frequently in popular culture, such as in the song 'Satisfaction' by Benny Benassi (which uses Fred and Victoria), or Auto in Wall-E which uses a combination of Ralph and Zarvox.
- Voice Boost ® Boost and normalize volume so every show is loud, clear, and at the same volume. Listen in more places, such as noisy cars, and still hear what everyone says without cranking the volume so high for quiet people that the loud ones blow your ears out.
