The Stream Deck is a small programmable external keyboard with LCD buttons that comes with an initial configuration to help live-video streamers run their shows without having to change applications, type, or move their mouse.
- A friend of mine runs MacOS 10.12.6. Is there an older version of the Stream Deck software that is compatible with that version of MacOS? I tried searching the.
- The Elgato Stream Deck controller was designed as an accessible solution to this issue - it is a miniature keyboard, with 6 or 15 LCD keys that can be configured to trigger any stream-related action with a single press. What’s more, you can design custom icons that make it easy to see exactly what each key.
You can find OBS.Live by searching within the Stream Deck software’s “more actions” section, along with specific configuration options for the add-on. So let’s go over what you can do with OBS.Live and Stream Deck!
First things first, you’ll need to install the Elgato Stream Deck software! Head over to the downloads page on the Elgato website (here) and select the download for Stream Deck.
Open the file and install once the download is complete. If you haven’t already plugged your Stream Deck in by this point, feel free to hook it up to any free USB port on your computer. Open the Stream Deck software and it should recognize the hardware.
You can press the middle button for welcome information, but for now, you can mouse over to it in the Stream Deck software, right click, and select delete. Now you have a blank slate and we can get started.
Adding StreamElements OBS.Live to the Actions List
With the Stream Deck software open, the next thing you’ll need to do is to select “more actions” on the the bottom right.

While you can scroll down here and look for “StreamElements OBS.Live,” it’s much quicker to use the search bar in the top right. Just type “StreamElements” and you will see what we need to get going. Click on “install” to add it to the Stream Deck software.
OBS.Live-Specific Actions for the Stream Deck
You now have StreamElements OBS.Live added to the Stream Deck software with a handful of OBS.Live specific actions.
Nine of the actions are highlighted with blue text and these denote OBS.Live-specific actions separate from standard OBS Studio actions, which are already available by default in the Stream Deck software.
The titles of the actions are pretty self-explanatory but in case you need any further information on them, just hover the mouse over the action item for a short explanation of what it does. This also applies for every action item available in the Stream Deck software as well.
At this point, OBS needs to be open so go ahead and open
Adding an Action Item
Stream Deck For Mac
To add any action item to your Stream Deck, just click and drag the desired action item onto any available square. Generally, for most Stream Deck action items, you would want to add a title or different icon. However, there’s no need to do that with OBS.Live as the default icon contains the title and basic image that correlates to what it does! This helps to keep it simple and straightforward!
With OBS open, you can test out any of your new OBS.Live action items. Just press the button on the Stream Deck and see what happens. The Charge KappaGen will be a crowd favorite for sure!
How to Configure Basic Scene Actions in Stream Deck
With your OBS.Live actions ready to go, all that is left is to do is configure your scene switching with the Stream Deck! If you have two scenes, for example, just drag the “scene” action item onto an available square and name it. If its your primary scene, “Primary” isn’t a bad name to go with!
Using the dropdowns, you can select which scene collection the scene you’d want to switch to is on. This would usually be your main streaming scene collection. Then, “scene” itself is where you choose the specific scene. Do this for as many scenes as you’d like, then, pressing the button on the Stream Deck will switch you back and forth effortlessly.
Happy streaming!
